RDS Access RDS Function affected by important systems update

13/05/2021 RDS access is now available, however the process have changed. To be granted access you will need to raise a ticket 'requesting access to remote desktop services' with the IT Service Desk to give you access. You can do this by logging a ticket Via StaffNet, emailing icthelpdesk@nottinghamcollege.ac.uk or calling the ICT helpdesk on 0115 912 5555. This will be done on a case-by-case basis. If you already have a ticket raised with us, we will be working through these in the next few days, you will receive the the process documentation via the icthelpdesk email address once you have been granted access.

If you have a company laptop, you should not need to do this, as you will have access via our virtual private network (VPN). If you have a company laptop and do not have VPN access, please submit a ticket requesting this service. If you need any assistance, please contact the IT Service Desk.

22/04/2021 Unfortunately RDS access is still temporary disabled as we are experiencing delays with our urgent systems maintenance as part of ongoing cyber security improvement works to protect our IT systems and the integrity of our online environment.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

If you are working on site and logging on as normal, access to these systems will be unaffected. Similarly, if you have a college laptop and using VPN services, your access will not be impacted.

16/04/2021 We notified you recently that the remote desktop services (RDS) facility is temporarily unavailable. This is due to urgent maintenance works, and part of a wider programme of improving cyber security.

Please be aware that due to technical challenges, we need to extend the relaunch date for our RDS services from the 15th April to the 21st April, but this will not be open access. Instead, we will grant access on a case-by-case basis.

30/03/2021 Dear Colleagues,

Last week we notified you that the RDS facility would be temporarily unavailable, due to urgent maintenance works.

This work is part of a wider programme that is underway to improve cyber security and protect our ICT infrastructure and online environment. You’ll be aware that organisations that have found themselves operating remotely for prolonged lock down periods are increasingly being targeted by cyber criminals - we are no exception. It’s vital that we incorporate the latest security protocols and functions into our systems.

This latest programme of works, whilst initially forecast to take around 48 hours, is now being extended and is unlikely to be completed and fully tested this week. This means that access to the RDS gateway will not be possible remotely.

If you are working onsite and logging on as normal, access to our systems is unaffected. Similarly, if you are remote working but have VPN access via a College laptop you will not be impacted.

If you are at home and need access to our systems, you will need to come onto site. We are doing our best to respond to requests for VPN access but will not be able to achieve this for everybody. The safest and quickest solution is for you to come onto site. It’s anticipated that access will resume next week.

We appreciate that any loss of systems access is difficult to manage, particularly in the run up to an end of term break. We are endeavouring to get systems up and running as quickly as possible, but it is imperative we do the work required to safeguard our systems.
